Welcome to the School of the Arts and Media (SAM). Our rich and diverse group of interdisciplinary programs enables students to make exciting links across areas of specialisation, and to engage in theoretical, practical, and creative approaches to academic study. This includes the opportunity to undertake creative and practice-based research at Masters and Doctoral level.

Many of the School's academic staff have internationally recognised profiles and are leaders in their field. In the recent Excellence in Research Australia assessments released in 2011 and 2012, UNSW distinguished itself as one of the finest research leaders in our areas internationally. Studies in Creative Arts and Writing was ranked with a score of 5 out of 5; likewise, in Literary Studies and Cultural Studies we were ranked equal top with a score of 5 out of 5 in each area. This means that SAM at UNSW was a nationally top-ranked institution in all of our fields of activity.
