Community Engagement

UNSW Music staff engage with variety of cultural organisations, arts institutions, and the broader community, as both scholarly experts and high level practitioners.

Head of School, Professor Andrew Schultz is an award winning composer, writing more than 30 new compositions in the last 5 years, and having his work performed by the Sydney and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras, Song Company, Australia Ensemble, ChamberMade Opera, Wigmore Hall and the Guildhall School of Music.

Activities and achievements by our staff include:

  • Interactive sound and light installation for AMP Building at Circular Quay, for Vivid 2013 with support and funding from AMP and from Vivid/Destination NSW.
  • Initiated Composition to Movement Festival, May, 2013 at UNSW, as part of Vivid Sydney, with support from APRA.
  • Keyboard advisor for the AMEB (NSW)
  • Australian Music Foundation Advisory Board (London)
  • Artistic Assessment Panel for Theme and Variations Foundation
  • National Executive Committee member of the Australasian Piano Pedagogy Conference Association (APPCA)
  • Australia Council Grant for the production of recordings of Australian music
  • Performance development with the South Indian community, particularly Lingalayam Dance Company.
  • Performances with the Sydney Philharmonia Orchestra.
  • Performances with local and visiting North Indian musicians.
  • Creative development work with Taikoz.
  • Performances with the Bridge Project (Middle Eastern music)
