Music research at UNSW investigates music analytically, culturally, philosophically, psychologically, pedagogically, and through practice-based research. Our staff engage in diverse research projects and attract international recognition for their work. Current research centres on change in Western classical performance styles, how emotion is expressed and induced by music, expressiveness in music performance, music performance in higher education, instrumental teaching and learning, contemporary composition, the classical music of North India, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Ghana, South Asian and Southeast Asian epic song, popular music aesthetics, music and migration, electro-acoustic composition, sonic arts, and the human voice.
