The Blues is Life - Lunchtime Concert

Please join us for a free, lunchtime, pop up concert, performed by UNSW music staff and students, led by Sandy Evans.

This concert takes its inspiration from a quote ‘The Blues is Life’ by the great African- American blues singer and guitarist Brownie McGhee.

Information for music students and staff who would like to play:

Who is this for? Anyone who can play a 12 bar blues and would like a chance to play. Jazz students are especially encouraged to come along and jam. Staff are welcome to play.

What to bring: Everything. No instruments, PA or music will be provided. Keep it simple. E.g Drummers bring snare and hi-hat, acoustic bass, guitar with small portable amp, or play acoustically.

Do I need to register in advance? No, but you must arrive by 12.45

Do I need a band? No. Sandy Evans will direct the concert and work with whoever turns up.

Can I bring a band? Yes. Individual band and vocal items are welcome, but you must have a simple set up. Items should be no longer than 4 minutes.

Can I compose a blues for this? Yes definitely, but you must prepare this and rehearse in advance.

Does it have to be jazz? No, all genres of blues are welcome.

Who will the audience be? Anyone you invite, and any passers by.

Finding us
Io Myers Studio is located at the entrance to Gate 2 High St, Kensington. Look for the Creative Practice Lab neon sign in our foyer windows.

There is limited parking in the Gate 2 area around Io Myers Studio but free parking is available from 6:30pm in the car park next to NIDA accessed through Day Ave.
