Gamelan Ensemble 2015 - SAMevent

The UNSW Balinese Gamelan presents its premier concert of contemporary and traditional gamelan music and dance. The gamelan is an ancient Indonesian orchestra of tuned bronze gongs, metallophones and drums. Our UNSW gamelan, called semar pegulingan, is specific to Bali. A Balinese priest or pemangku will perform a ritual blessing to ensure the protection of the new gamelan and its players.

The program features new work from Balinese artist Alit Adi Putra and Australian composers Gerard Brophy, Andrian Pertout and John Peterson.

Please join us to celebrate the music and culture of our Indonesian neighbours.
