Welcome to the School of the Arts and Media (SAM), previously known as the School of English, Media and Performing Arts. Our rich and diverse group of interdisciplinary programs enables students to make exciting links across areas of specialisation, and to engage in theoretical, practical, and creative approaches to academic study. This includes the opportunity to undertake creative and practice-based research at Masters and Doctoral level.

Many of the School's academic staff have internationally recognised profiles and are leaders in their field. In the recent Excellence in Research Australia assessments released in February 2011, SAM distinguished itself as one of the finest research leaders in our areas internationally. Performing Arts and Creative Writing was ranked with a score of 5 out of 5 as was Film, Television and Digital Media; this means that SAM at UNSW was Australia's top-ranked institution in those fields.
